The mission of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (also known as The Met) sounds inspiring: it collects, studies, conserves, and presents significant works of art across all times and cultures in order to connect people to creativity, knowledge, and ideas.
The museum has many permanent collections which are exhibited in seventeen curatorial departments. Collections include but not limited to ancient Near Estern art, Asian art, drawings and prints, Egyptian art, European art, Greek and Roman art, Islamic art. Beyond this there is an over 5,000-size musical instruments collection and a 25,000-pieces photographs collection.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art also has a Conservation and Scientific research department for scientists, conservators and curators.

Sun - Thu: 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Fri - Sat: 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
The musuem is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Dec 25, Jan 1, and the first Monday in May.
The admission is basically free to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, but there is a recommended fee to cover the costs of exhibitions. The recommended ticket price is $25 for adults.
Note that advence registration is required for groups of 10 or more.
